A great way to get exposure is by doing an interview. Normally people think about an interview as an article for a paper or television. While they are great places and may be available there are also numerous others.
Does your local High School have a newspaper? Maybe you could offer to be interviewed by one of the students. Smaller AM radio stations have local interest spots or weekend programming that they may be looking to fill.
Something as simple as a local coupon book, these books are widely distributed for free and, like all marketing, need to be seen. A small article in the book may help get the pages opened and offer an idea to the company offering the coupon book an idea they never thought of.
Open up your thinking of how you can be interviewed whether on a local or national scale.
