Guess What Day It Is?

When running ads and other marketing on any level make sure to keep some consistency.

Many people have seen this commercial and it’s either funny or annoying. If your name is Mike and you work in a cube farm you may hate Wednesday more than Monday.

The product being sold in the commercial becomes secondary and may be difficult for people to even remember but the message is there at the end and presented by a couple of guys that pop up with the same props as all of the other commercials in the series. By repeating the image of the spokespeople at the end of the commercial they become another form of branding for the company.

When a commercial in this series is run the first time you see it, or it may take a couple views if you only catch a piece of the commercial, you initially have no idea what the commercial is for but it’s entertaining so you watch. But once you see the guys on the stage at the end you recognize the relationship to previous commercials and wait for the punch line. Immediately after the punch line is the Brand.

And then comes the real marketing. The next day thousands of Mikes get to hear “Mike, Mike, Mike” when they get to the office.

Sometimes your advertising might hit the wrong market a little too hard but if it gets you into the news it gets your Brand out there.

‘Hump Day’ commercial: Connecticut students banned from quoting Geico ad.  Some Connecticut teachers are fed up with students quoting Geico’s “Hump Day” commercial.

“If you look at the tracking chart, the irony of it is it actually makes a hump, and it spikes on Wednesdays,..what more could you ask for,” said Wade Alger, the Martin Agency ad man in charge of Geico’s account.

When running ads and other marketing on any level make sure to keep some consistency. It could be symbols, logos, colors, slogans or images but there needs to be consistency to build you into a market leader.

Have A Great Day
