How to change a motor on a Dexter Dryer

The problem with this dryer is that the drum was not turning. In this post (Click Here) I explain a common issue with this model where there is a bad connection on the bottom of the control board.

Soldering the connection made no difference so I swapped the control board with another dryer and had the same situation.

I checked behind the dryer and heard the motor “humming “. At that point, it seemed like a simple fix to remove the motor and have it checked and repaired. Unfortunately, the pulley did not want to come off the shaft so the motor and fan assembly had to be removed.
To get the fan out the belt pulleys need to be removed. The tools you will need are:
1/2″ Electric Impact
– 1 1/2″ Socket

The impact is needed to remove the nut on the upper pulley. The torque setting for this model is 150 ft lbs. It is possible to put a bar through one of the holes in the pulley and use a large wrench to remove the nut but honestly, it would be a pain and has a way better chance of causing me to bang my knuckles then I like.
Once the fan assembly was removed I took it all over to a local motor shop to get checked out.

The cause of the problem was the capacitor on the motor. These are not normally a problem but may have failed due to the issues with the contact on the circuit board.
With the motor repaired and checked out, it was just a matter of reassembling the parts, checking the operation and putting the covers back on.
